Guacamole: Quite Possible the Best Dip Ever

Guacamole is the go-to party dip for good reason. It pairs perfectly with tortilla chips and is creamy, delicious and best of all, so easy to make! All you need is one bowl, a handful of ingredients and a few minutes to whip it up.

Pro Tip: The key to making perfect guacamole is to use ripe avocados. The avocados should be dark green in color and should slightly yield to pressure. If the avocados are light green and feel hard when you squeeze them, they are not ripe yet. If the avocados are dark green but feel very soft, they may be overripe and will not taste good.

How to Make Guacamole from Scratch

Slice three ripe avocados in half, remove the pit and scoop them into a mixing bowl. Then use a fork to gently mash them to your desired level of chunky or smooth. Add the lime juice, garlic, salt, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and jalapeno pepper and and stir everything together.

That’s it! The most delicious, easy guacamole ever is really that simple to make.

How To Store Leftover Guacamole

Guacamole oxidizes and turns brown pretty quickly. The lime juice helps to slow this process, but generally leftover guacamole will eventually start to brown. Here’s the best way to store guacamole and keep it green:

  • Place your leftover guacamole in a storage container and pat it down firmly with a spoon so it’s nice and flat on top.
  • Add about a 1/2 inch of cold water on top.
  • Place the lid on the storage container and store it in the fridge.

When you’re ready to eat the guacamole, simply drain the water off the top, give it a stir, and it’s good to go. In my experience, this hack will keep your guacamole green for up to three days in the fridge.

    there was mexican food catered in for lunch yesterday at my office, and it was delicious. but there were a ton of chips and no salsa or guac; what’s up with that?! anyways, this sounds super similar to how i make guac (: i like cilantro and jalapeno, but they’re not MUST HAVES like garlic and onion are (;

      Hey Heather! Yes chips without any salsa and guac is a definite no-no. Although if there was queso dip I could have let it slide! 😉 Yeah this is the way I always make guacamole! I need to have a bit of garlic and onion for flavor and texture! 🙂
