  • In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, salt, sugar, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes and black pepper.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 8 - 10 minutes until slightly reduced and thickened. Season with additional salt, pepper or sugar to taste if needed.
